From the Pastor's Desk: Making Moments Count as We Look Toward the Future

November brings a real focus to gratitude. While we should be grateful each day, Thanksgiving offers us a reminder to pause and be grateful. I am grateful for the long and rich legacy that First Corpus enjoys and I am grateful that I have the opportunity to be part of it. We sit in the middle – the moment – between the legacy we inherit and the future we shape. What an exciting time to be part of this family!

Over the past several weeks, we have shared the vision for the next six years. It is a God-sized vision for growth and going deep as the Spirit develops our roots. When we are rooted in a vibrant relationship with Jesus, we grow and produce fruit. When each member of our family is growing and producing fruit it will change our community.

But the vision is more than a flowered statement of aspiration. The God-sized part of the dream centers on moments – over a million moments to be exact. We cannot change the past and the future is not yet, but we can (and must) live in the now and be present in the moment. The next six years will be filled with faith moments, growth moments, discipleship moments – God moments. The power of the vision comes in stringing moments together!

I am calling each of us to step into the challenge to make every moment matter. God began a good work in us on August 17, 1878, and He has been faithful to continue to bring that good work to completion to this day. And He is not done! He is faithful to continue to bring that good work to completion all the way up to the return of Christ.

Will we be faithful to do our part? Make every moment count!

Carroll was one of our first pastors. He came from a strong family ...
