Recreation Ministry

Our Recreation Center is more than a rec center, it is a ministry. We have several seasonal events including Breakfast with Santa and our annual Fall Festival, Noah’s Ark. We also minister through Upward Basketball in the Fall/Winter as well as Spring and Summer Adult Basketball leagues.

Adult Basketball

Weekly Schedule:
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays – age 55 & older only / 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays – Open Gym / 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
  • Saturdays – age 55 and older only / 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Cost: $2 per player drop in fee 

First Saturday Golf Fellowship

  • 8:00 a.m. Tee time, please sign in by 7:45 am

Fitness Room

Equipment: treadmills, stair climber, elliptical trainers, stationary bike, weight machine, dumb bells. Available 8:30am until building closes, Monday to Saturday. Call the Rec Center for information and times.
Cost: $2.00 / guest 

Pickleball

  • Mondays 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Wednesdays 11:30 am – 2:00 pm
  • Fridays 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Craft Room in the Rec Center. Beginners welcome!
This is strictly ceramics – some molds and slip available. (No pottery wheels.)

Thursdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Preschool Playday

Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11:30 am (Moon Jump deflated at 11:00 am)
Summer schedule varies due to activities. Please check with the Rec Center (361-883-2421)
Free and open to children kindergarten and younger.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Chris Skogland

Pastor of Recreation & Family Ministries

Chris started at First Baptist in 2011 as Pastor to Students. He served in this role for more than six years before becoming our College/Family Pastor and as of February 2021 is also our Recreation Minister. Chris is married to Mindy and they have three wonderful kids; Jackson, Jordyn and Avery. Chris loves all sports including fishing, golf, and just hanging out with his family.
